A mobile app is computer programme that is designed to run on smart phones, tablets, games, and other devices. In our day in age, every smartphone is now runs with different apps and is used majorly by apps.

1973 IBM SIMON

The history of app development goes back around the 1990’s, when devices were introducing a few features such as games, calculator app, calendar app. Going all the way back to the beginning mobile phones, The first phone call was made in 1973, it took years of research and development, and it was IBM SIMON who introduces the world with first mobile apps, you could on make phone calls for 30 minutes a day due to its battery life and users had to charge the hone for around 10 hours. It was also the first touch screen device

1992 PSION EPOC

Psion EPOC, was a portable device, were it showed really the recognizable first apps in the early 1990s, the device ran many app programmes such as word processor spreadsheet, agenda, database, contacts and calculator.

1996 PALM OS

Palm OS was developed in 1996 for digital assistants, it has a touch screen graphical user interface and also came with some basic apps and third party apps. Also from Palm OS 3.0 onwards these included wireless applications.

1997 SNAKE ON THE NOKIA 6110

The Nokia 6110 made a major innovation when it came to mobile app design, it had a variety of practical apps including email and spreadsheets, one app that stood out was, Snake it proved that mobile phones had another important thing to offer the world, fun. With ridiculously simple gameplay that scaled up in difficulty at a perfect rate, Snake had all of the elements of an addictive mobile game, without eating up too much memory or battery. With Snake, you could silently occupy yourself. This had a major change in the gaming world of app design that would lead into other addictive games.

1998 SYMBIAN

Symbian had an important role in the history of app design, it was a change in mobile operating system for smartphones, it grew out of the Psion E, and developed by Symbian Ltd (a joint venture of Psion, Ericsson, Nokia and Motorola) This the operating system had 250 million devices running Symbian in 2009. It was Nokia that drove the development of Symbian OS, and the S60 platform was used on about all Nokia handsets with some LG and Samsung as well. It feature a lot more features and the design interface was starting to shape like in today’s day.

2007 IPHONE

In 2007 The iPhone became a game changer in the world of app design and let alone technology, The first iPhone was introduces, it offered a multitouch screen, that adjusted on how the phone was held or tilted and brought many new ideas and possibilities for UX design

Also another major change was the app marketplace, this allowed endless possibilities for app creators to have a path to build and market their products
